Finance: Creating a dashboard to track financial and economic indicators, python ver. 1

Last Updated on March 27, 2022 by shibatau

I. What shall we learn?

Recently I have not written any posts about finance but I’m thinking of beginning to learn finance again. Now I want to create a dashboard for the general understanding of the present financial environments. I happened to find just the dashboard that I wanted to create. I have created the dashboard with Jupyter Notebook on Google Colaboratory:

You will find the scripts here:

https://github.com/saychelsea11/Finance_And_Covid_Tracking_Dashboard/blob/main/Finance_tracking.ipynb

You can also read the explanations about the indexes here:

Creating a dashboard using Python to track critical financial and economic indicators

II. How to create the dashboard

I will create the dashboard in the three ways.

  1. Jupyter Notebook on Google Colaboratory
  2. Jupyter Notebook on my computer
  3. Streamlit App in Python

III. Jupter Notebook on Google Colaboratory

I have learned the scripts from the pages linked above but I have replaced the key with my ‘X-RapidAPI-Key’ (https://rapidapi.com/apidojo/api/yh-finance). You have to get the RapidApi account for free. Also you might have to copy the extract_stock_info(ticker) function in the helper_functions.py to a cell on Google Colaboratory. I don’t know why the function doesn’t work when imported from the helper_functions.py.

You can the scripts here though you cannot see the helper_functions.py.
